Day 12!
HERE IT IS!
The world famous sign announcing the Route 66 iconic landmark the Jack Rabbit Trading Post.
The Jack Rabbit trading post was built and in continuous operation since 1949, and has been owned by the current family since 1962.
Yes, this happened.
Now we're in Winslow, Arizona! Here's the statue to commemorate the Eagles song, "Take It Easy" with the famous lyrics, "Standing on the corner in Winslow, Arizona." The picture in the background is a total mural on a brick wall, those are not real windows!
What is that little plateau in the flat desert we see?
It's the world's largest and best preserved Impact Crater from a meteor that hit the earth 50,000 years ago.
This is the largest fragment ever found of the meteorite that caused the meteor crater. The rest is believed to have vaporized on impact.
The crater is nearly one mile across.
Now in the very scenic Williams, Arizona; like an eclectic old west town.
The Red Garter Inn used to be the rowdiest place in Williams, as a bordello and hotel.
This town really loves their Route 66 heritage. This Cafe features live music of classic rock.
Now we're in Seligman, Arizona, one of the quaintest Route 66 towns that suffered once the major interstates diverted traffic away from the town.
Every building in Seligman has character and a story.
Look at this cool spot with mannequins all over.
The Delgadillo's Snow Cap Drive-in is perhaps the most famous spot in Seligman. It's highly decorated with humorous and colorful nostalgia and characters. It's built in 1953. It's menu features "Cheeseburger with Cheese" and "Dead Chicken Sandwiches."
With no campgrounds nearby, we opted to stay at a landmark and often photographed motel, the Supai Motel. It's 57 years old, and very comfortable still.
We stop for the night. Tomorrow, we're off to fabulous LAS VEGAS!
Check back for daily latest adventures to come. Also, if you want to see additional footage of places we've already been. Check out my dad's two brand new YouTube videos below, especially the second one, "Gay Parita, the Lost Footage."
